Son of a certain Fitio, born of a noble family, Ibico lived in the second half of the fifth century B.C. He studied and formed his education at Stesicoro's Lyrical School. He travelled a lot and lived in Samo for many years at Policrate's court. It is said that he wrote seven books of poems, but only rare fragments have survived. From them we can deduce that he wrote two kinds of poems: Lyrical odes with a heroic content and love Poems. According to a legend, Ibico was killed by robbers who assailed him at Corinto or in Reggio. |
